Kimetsu no Yaiba : (Japanese: 鬼滅の刃, Hepburn: Kimetsu no Yaiba, lit.Blade of Demon Destruction) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotoge. It follows Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who becomes a demon slayer after his family is slaughtered and his younger sister Nezuko is turned into a demon. The manga was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020, and its chapters collected in 21 tankobon volumes as of July 2020. It is published in English by Viz Media and simulpublished by Shueisha in English and Spanish on their Manga Plus platform.

An anime television series adaptation by ufotable aired in Japan from April to September 2019. Following the airing of the final episode, a sequel film was announced and is scheduled to premiere in October 2020.

 Kodansha announced today that “Demon Slayer” mangaka Koyoharu Gotouge has received the second “Noma Publishing Culture Award”. The publisher awards this award to people who have made outstanding contributions to the publishing industry, in particular to the reinvention of the publishing industry.
Franchise ensured immense growth

The award, which comes with a cash prize of one million yen, was given to Gotouge because of the impressive growth of the "Demon Slayer" franchise. This refers to both the manga and the anime, games, novels and spin-offs. Each of these works saw immense growth in the entire Japanese publishing industry in 2019 and 2020.

Gotouge published "Demon Slayer" from February 2016 to May 2020 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" magazine. The manga ends with 205 chapters. The Shueisha publishing house has so far published 22 of a total of 23 volumes in Japan, which have already sold over 100 million copies. In this country the series of Manga Cult is published.

An anime adaptation that ran on WAKANIM in the spring and summer 2019 season was created in the ufotable studio, directed by Haruo Sotozaki. A sequel film successfully launched in Japanese cinemas on October 16, 2020. Two game offshoots are currently in work.
